Project: Monogram

Course: Typography 2

DESCRIPTION:

For this project we were given a famous creative and had to design a monogram and business card application for the monogram.

My creative was Dorothy Parker, a 1930’s writer and poet, known for her quick wit. I kept her personality in mind, creating a design that was refined but also a bit snarky, just like her.

I iterated multiple thumbnails and experiments, trying to find a way to combine the letterforms, combining the p and the d to create one unified mark.

This was the mark I had decided on pursuing, but it needed some refining. From here, I exaggerated the serifs, and refined the edges and curves, making for a stronger mark.

This was the finished 2 sided business card. I used a monospace typeface to evoke her occupation, and included one of her famous quotes to highlight her skills as a creative writer with a witty tongue.
